Oyungaa
Oyungaa is a young woman who has trained as an artist, supporting herself through university and is one of the few people in Mongolia to paint on quality silk. She is a single mum bringing up her twin daughters and sharing a two room apartment with her sister and mother. Her inspiration for her painting is from the Mongolian countryside. It is expressed in the colours and scenes of the Gobi depicting the swirling desert colours and camels, or the green colour of the summer steppe with the hills and lakes and gers dotted on the landscape. She also paints the purple shadows of Lake Hovsgul – home of the reindeer people who live in teepee like structures and tend their herds in the woods beside this beautiful lake. Imagine these different Mongolian landscapes. Imagine the nomadic life on the wide open steppe. Ladies scarves and neck scarves in fine floaty silk fabric with soft landscape paintings or floral scenes and hand painted ties for the man who has everything.
Oyungaa's daughters both have displaced hip joints from birth and are undergoing several operations to improve their quality of life. Much of Oyungaa's income from silk painting is going to fund operations and medical care for her daughters.
